What is a slurry?

Larger impellers made of more material. This is to compensate for the wear and tear caused by abrasive slurries.

Although the focus of slurry pumps is often on the size and percentage of solids to be pumped, in many applications corrosion resistance is also an important factor in material selection. In such cases, the material chosen must provide adequate resistance to erosion and corrosion.

Step 1

Keep in mind that slurry pumps are designed to adapt to specific pumping conditions. Pumps used in the cement industry handle most fine particles at low pressures, so the casing can be of lightweight construction. In rock pumping, the casing and impeller must be able to resist slamming, so they must be built thick and strong.

Lithopone, C.I. Pigment White 5, is a mixture of inorganic compounds, widely used as a white pigment powder. It is composed of a mixture of barium sulfate and zinc sulfide. These insoluble compounds blend well with organic compounds and confer opacity. It was made popular by the cheap production costs, greater coverage. Related white pigments include titanium dioxide, zinc oxide (zinc white), zinc sulfide, and white lead.^[1]

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a versatile and widely used inorganic compound that has numerous applications, ranging from pigments in paints and coatings to cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. As a result, the demand for TiO2 powder suppliers has been steadily increasing.

In a study published in the journal Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology in 2020, researchers examined the effects of food additives titanium dioxide and silica on the intestinal tract by grouping and feeding mice three different food-grade particles — micro-TiO2, nano-TiO2, and nano-SiO2.  With all three groups, researchers observed changes in the gut microbiota, particularly mucus-associated bacteria. Furthermore, all three groups experienced inflammatory damage to the intestine, but the nano-TiO2 displayed the most pronounced changes. The researchers wrote: “Our results suggest that the toxic effects on the intestine were due to reduced intestinal mucus barrier function and an increase in metabolite lipopolysaccharides which activated the expression of inflammatory factors downstream. In mice exposed to nano-TiO2, the intestinal PKC/TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway was activated. These findings will raise awareness of toxicities associated with the use of food-grade TiO2 and SiO2.”

Lithopone is chemically inert and practically insoluble in acids, alkalis and solvents. The optimized particle-size distribution of Lithopone attained by means of co-precipitation and calcining permit the achievement of a high apparent density, which imparts to Lithopone its low resin requirement and its excellent rheological behaviour.

Finally, it's important to consider the global trends impacting the pigment industry as a whole. Environmental regulations, technological advancements, and sustainable practices are increasingly becoming part of the conversation. Suppliers that prioritize eco-friendly production methods or offer biodegradable alternatives may appeal to buyers willing to pay a higher price for sustainably sourced materials.
